ART

FREDERIK PREUSCHOFT – SHOOT, VANISHING THE LIGHT, SMILE, DON’T SHOOT (LUMOSALI)

Film has intensely explored the medium photography in several feature films. Photographer personalities, photographic images or photographic actions repeatedly become the subject of cinematic narratives in feature films. In this exhibition, photography is re-exposed in the feature film. In installative and videographic works, filmic set pieces are detached from their original contexts, collected, reorganized, condensed, … Continue reading “FREDERIK PREUSCHOFT – SHOOT, VANISHING THE LIGHT, SMILE, DON’T SHOOT (LUMOSALI)”

ILMARI PESONEN – IN ORGANICS

‘In organics’ is a constantly morphing and flowing field of digital mass, dancing on the verge of mesmerizing and gross. The piece is a study on how purely digital and fairly simple systems can produce material that has the feel of a somehow living system.

ANTTI PUSSINEN – FLOCK SERIES

Insects, birds, fish and other animals form flocks while they move. Flock’s movement and changes in it’s direction form an impression of a bigger living organism instead of a group of smaller individuals. Flock Series’s texture and arrangement mimics this ever changing and transforming movement.

XPLOAV – STANDPOINT

The work plays around with the idea of an isometric projection. Isometric means equal measures where all the lines of a face are drawn at the same angle. The viewpoint angle reveals hidden surfaces and structures of the environment that would otherwise not be visible from a top-down perspective or side view, thereby producing a … Continue reading “XPLOAV – STANDPOINT”

VILLE AALTO – Avian Electronics | Fire & Cicadas

…the spring before this sickness, there was a numerous company of flies […]; they came out of little holes in the ground, and did eat up the green things, and made such a constant yelling noise as made the woods ring of them, and ready to deafen the hearers… -New England’s Memorial / William Bradford, … Continue reading “VILLE AALTO – Avian Electronics | Fire & Cicadas”

PÄIVI ALAJUNTTI – WHAT’S NOW?

The eyes light up again. The site-specific work is a sequel to Who’s There? installations. Forest beings are concerned about the accelerating consequences of global warming. Among other things, forest fires around the world are destroying nature and narrowing living space, causing suffering, misery and death. The glowing red eyes can be interpreted as expressing … Continue reading “PÄIVI ALAJUNTTI – WHAT’S NOW?”

GHOST PROJECT – SYNTHETIC SUNSETS

The new videowork of the art collective is a an ensemble of iconic sunsets. The installation, as seen through venetian blinds and a candied filter, plays with the subject of natural versus artificial. The modern man keeps on seeking instant gratification by saturating the digital environment with image correcting filters. Do we still know how … Continue reading “GHOST PROJECT – SYNTHETIC SUNSETS”

ATELIER LUX – L’ETOILE

With this contemplative sculpture named L’ETOILE (The Star), Simon Chevalier and Lucile Cassassolles sets out to bring to Finland that bright spot which have inspired science-fiction, religion, clairvoyance and astronomy for decades. In contrast to a world saturated with fast, colorful, and loud solicitations to spectators, the duo of artists choose to present simple, static, … Continue reading “ATELIER LUX – L’ETOILE”

ANNE ROININEN – Martinlaakso Light Art Installation

A light installation which consists of meetings, colours, homes, scene, windows and a little bit of coincidence. Residents of the apartment building were asked to participate in making the installation. The result is a surprise seen for the first and the last time during the festival. The installation lives as maintained by the residents lives … Continue reading “ANNE ROININEN – Martinlaakso Light Art Installation”
