The starting point of Sparrow talk is the sparrow as a suburbanite and social bird. The mundaneness and widespread nature of the bird are combined with the lives of the people in the area. The sparrow lives all over the world and its “speech” varies depending on the area it lives in. Pauli Tapio’s poems appear on the screen as written or thought. The poems play with the ambiguity of words and the features of birdsong. The poems contain references to the Koivukylä area, different languages and traditions, as well as the sparrow’s song and movements. Languages used in poems are spoken in the Koivukylä region. The work is based on the idea that it is impossible to fully understand different species, cultures or languages.
