Merle Karp
– Ahdas

Branches pressed against a moist surface.
The temperature rises, humidity condenses, a droplet runs down a leaf.

The video work Ahdas (Tight) illustrates the experience of climate anxiety.

Merle Karp is a Helsinki-based visual designer, video artist and VJ, also known as Folded Visuals. She is the artistic director and one of the co-founders of Aavistus Festival. Karp uses video to create moods and environments, and aims to evoke soothing, dreamy mindscapes. Her work often portrays nature, such as mosses, ferns, and rippling ponds. Occasionally, she explores tensions between humans and technology, toxic tourism or the pressures that society puts on us.
