Jukka Laukkanen
Waltz from hiukanharju

The 250-meter-long light installation, situated on the sandy slopes of Hiukka, undergoes a transformation during the Reflektor Sotkamo Presents event. The light installation “Waltz from Hiukanharju” draws its inspiration from the identically named musical composition.

The artwork takes us back once again to the memories of the past summer and, in its own unique way, warmly welcomes both new and old friends from afar to the Reflektor Sotkamo event.

Translation: “‘The Waltz from Hiukanharju’ softly plays in the night, soon morning paints the region purple again.“

Hiukan Experience Lights is an adaptable, permanent light art installation that harmonizes with nature, depicting the phenomena and character of the seasons. At times, the installation pays tribute to Finnish milestones, while at other times, it comments on global events.

Jukka Laukkanen, based in Northern Finland, is a light artist who naturally moves from one field to another: from performing arts to architecture and to environmental art. The nature of light inspires him daily, even though Laukkanen has worked with light for over 25 years.
