Association
Reflektor is organized by Reflektor ry. The association exists to grow audiences for audiovisual art by taking works to where people already are — suburbs, nature trails, residential areas.
The 2025 board of Reflektor ry consists of Matti Jykylä (Chair), Annina Pikkumäki (Vice Chair), Aake Otsala, Christina Dvinge, and Paula Korte.

Projects
Muksut Mäppää
In collaboration:
Muksut Mäppää (Kids Mapping) is a community-art initiative within the Reflektor festival that boosts civic participation among primary-school children. The project invites kids from the festival’s surrounding neighbourhoods to become festival artists and uses projection-mapping to beam their creations—building-sized—into the cityscape.
By taking place inside schools, the project opens conversations about the children’s agency and their right to shared urban space, then hands them a tool to remake that space in their own image. Working in schools also levels access—especially for youngsters in socially vulnerable situations—and underlines every child’s right to make their voice heard in public.

Metsä korvien välissä
In collaboration:
Metsä korvien välissä (The Forest Between the Ears) is a trilogy of community sound works created for 18–29-year-olds who live with mental-health challenges. Rolling out nationwide as part of the 2024–2025 Reflektor festivals, the project pairs three Finnish sound artists with young adults to co-compose site-specific pieces in natural settings. Scattered across Finland, the works invite listeners to explore the ties between nature and mental wellbeing, to reflect on hope and multiculturality, and to question the stigmas that still cling to mental health.
The concept draws inspiration from the Finnish Central Association for Mental Health’s Skutsi kuulee (“The Woods Are Listening”) initiative, which helps the same age group build a positive bond with nature and supports holistic wellbeing through outdoor activity. Building on that experience and insight, we aim to extend the impact—pushing the conversation further through the medium of art.
