Feather and Stars

The work consists of a painted stainless steel sculpture and a five-part video projection. The shape of the sculpture combines magpie’s tail feather to the round shapes of the nearby houses. The videos are born from different fantasies, tales and folklores of flying and birds.

Day 1:
Magpie steals the moon. This part is based on magpies role in tales as a wise but stealing bird.

Day 2:
Eggs The animation refers to various folktales of creation of the world from an egg. Exploding connect the work to the Big Bang theory.

Day 3:
Sign A hybrid of traffic sign, clouds, and flying crows float on piece of asphalt against a starry sky. The animation is based on Jonathan Swift’s ‘Gullivers travels’, the book where the flying island, Laputa, is described for the first time.

Day 4:
Feather In early Renssaince frescoes angel feathers were depicted not to resemble any bird feathers ound on earth. The Feathers’ appearance in the animation is based on angel feathers in Fran Angelico’s fresco ‘Annunciation’ (1440-1445), on display in the Convent of San Marco in Florence.

Day 5:
Windows The animation is based on the idea of parallel worlds behind mirrors and windows. In “Alice in through the looking-glass” Alice disappears to a world behind the mirror. The idea of a wormhole in astrophysics presents a surface which connects two far-away places.
