Camilla Vuorenmaa (Hamlet) Speak, I am bound to listen, 2025

uv-painting installation on plexiglass

For this installation, I photographed material in Brighton, England. I visited the famous amuse-ment park Brighton Pier, which is located at the end of a long pier above the sea. In this timeworn resort town, the echoes of the old techno raves lin-gered in the air, and people of all ages played slot machines. The prizes were plastic toys.

The installation explores the fleeting consumption associated with entertainment; the pursuit of joy and excitement through games of chance. At the center of the installation is the murdered king from Shakespeare’s Hamlet, who returns to warn his son and demand revenge.
