Saana Volanen certain light, 2024

No thoughts can reach the light, that distant light, which however reaches me. Kinetic artwork certain light was born out of an interest in cosmic scales and optics which have made it possible to observe and capture outer space. In the artwork a light moves through different lenses and on their surfaces. The lenses refract, shape and direct the light so that its nature changes.

Saana Volanen is a scenographer and lighting designer who works in the field of performing arts and light art. She’s holding a master’s degree in lighting design from University of Arts Helsinki and a bachelor’s degree in scenography from Aalto University. Volanen is interested in how time and space intertwine conceptually and in experiences. Her light art is inspired by moments where she is taken aback by a cosmic light in her daily life.
