Salla Salin Analogue Projections: Antonymy, 2026

Antonymy addresses questions regarding materiality, imperceptibility, and the layered nature of everyday life. Its material is the most commonly used clear overhead projector transparency film, measuring 100 microns, i.e. one-tenth of a millimeter, in thickness. In its intended use, the film is an invisible, almost imperceptible support structure designed to serve as a base for handwritten or printed material.
But what happens when that inconspicuous element begins to accumulate?

The work consists of thin strips of transparency film; when layered, they create a gradually shifting tonal gradient in the projected image. Light passes through the thin layers with ease, yet the more layers there are, the more opaque the series becomes.

Analogue Projections is an ongoing series of works at Reflektor since 2021, in which various artists create temporary projection pieces in unexpected locations. The projections are created using overhead projectors. Three new works from the series will premiere at the Reflektor Sotkamo 2026 festival.
